art beat...

beats, beers, bikes, barbers, booze, oh and some art too. last night's First Friday Art Walk show at Gallery Underground and Summit Studios was pretty damn rad. as has been common recently i had plenty of technical issues for the first 30 minutes or so, but once "love dog" by TVOTR started playing, i fell into a very nice rhythm. GU stayed packed nearly all night long which was great to see. though not much art was sold, the party was epic.

as i mentioned back in October, i love playing these types of gigs. all night long i found myself thinking about the quality of people that were congregating and conversating. no pretentious bs. no drunken drama. no attitudes. no buzz kills. just good people and thus a good vibe. playing in a bar is very different. people are in the bar for far different reasons than in the art gallery party. and thus, most of the bars in Fort Collins offer up the polar opposite of last night's experience. in the ice cold sea of Fort Collins sports bars, the First Friday gigs are a warm tropical island.

big ups to host Darrren and his lovely wife Lisa, obviously the social king and queen of FTC. props also to the artists who put their heart on display last night. I finally got a chance to peep out the artwork for myself after the party died down. quality. not a single slacker in the bunch. thanks to New Belgium Brewery for providing the beer, but please don't mix up the keg labels next time. what was supposed to be a 2 below keg turned out to be blue paddle. c'mon. it's snowing right now. blue paddle? really? oh, and Roundhouse Spirits = tasty!! the christmastini was well mixed as was the coffee liquor martini (corretto). to The Parlour ladies, i wish i had the time to let you work on my cowlicks. i'll have to stop by sometime next week. thanks to FC Bikes and Overland Mountain Bike Club for keeping FTC cyclists safe with the free night lights. and lastly thanks to the many good people that came out last night.
